ARCADE, NY - A man is in the hospital after an apparent accidental shooting in Wyoming County. Police say 59-year-old James Carley was sitting in a lawn chair in front of his camper in Arcade Monday afternoon, when a bullet struck him in the neck.

Nursing home to get retroactive Medicaid funds

ALBION -- The Villages of Orleans nursing home will receive $625,000 in retroactive Medicaid funding by next spring as part of the Center for Medicaid Services' new formula for reimbursement. The money will compensate the nursing home for services rendered under the new rate dating back three years, said administrator Jeff Glatz.

Miller of Alexander as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the 2008-2009 year at its annual meeting held at the Batavia Campus Monday evening. The Board also elected Charles R. MIPP assists 8 families with disconnect notices

The Red Cross - Rochester Gas and Electric Matching Incentive Payment Program (MIPP) provided utility assistance to eight Livingston County families in the past two weeks, resulting in $2580.83 in direct service. Of the eight families assisted, three were from Geneseo, three from Mount Morris, and one each from Nunda and Livonia.

Wyoming Animal Shelter Full of Cats

The Wyoming County SPCA in Attica is completely full and isn't accepting cats until they start finding homes for the hundreds of cats currently there. The 'no kill' animal shelter is past its limit for housing cats. "In the last five to six months it's been increasing and we're inundated, we're overwhelmed," Sue Davila from the SPCA said. "A lot of beautiful cats here, a lot of friendly cats, they just need to go to a good home."

Two Geneseo men die in Adirondack car crash

Police in the western Adirondacks are investigating an accident that killed two Livingston County men.

Police say 27-year-old William Cook III and 28-year-old John Curry Jr., both of Geneseo, died as a result of the one-car crash near old Forge in Herkimer County just before 3 a.m. Sunday. A passenger in the car, Thomas Albanese, also of Geneseo, suffered a broken leg but was able to flag down a passing car for help.

NY Skydiver killed when parachute fails to open

A skydiver has died after his parachute failed to open while he was jumping with other skydivers near the Batavia airport.

Authorities say 61-year-old Joseph Schickler, of Brighton, died Thursday while participating in an event for skydivers from all over western New York.

Teen dies in Batavia house fire, 2 family members escape

A 17-year-old Oakfield-Alabama High School student died this weekend as a result of a house fire in the town of Batavia, Genesee County.

The fire started about 2 a.m. at 7881 Lewiston Road according to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office. When town of Batavia firefighters arrived at the scene, they found heavy flames rising from the north end of the two-story house, according to Batavia firefighters. They controlled the blaze in about 20 minutes.

Livingston County woman missing

Police are looking for a Livingston County woman who has been missing for almost two weeks. Lucy Diane Jefferies, 65, is 5 feet 9 inches tall, 180 to 200 pounds and has white hair.

She has a history of mental health problems and is not believed to have her medications with her, Avon police said. She may be confused or delusional. Jefferies was last seen in Rochester on May 18.
