Retired Army Staff Sergeant David Bellavia announced that he will suspend his participation with the Vets for Freedom's National Heroes Tour in order to focus on his planned run for Congress in New York's 26th District as a conservative Republican.

Congressman Tom Reynolds announces retirement

Western New York Congressman Tom Reynolds is announcing his retirement today. Reynolds has served the 26th District since 1999 and has been a member of the powerful ways and means committee.

He survived a tough re-election battle last election cycle against businessman Jack Davis. This week Davis announced he is thinking of running for that congressional seat once again.

Iroquois NWR Youth Turkey Hunt Orientation

Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge in Alabama, NY announced today that it is now accepting applications for the Youth Turkey Hunt Program. The first Sunday of the spring turkey hunting season, May 4, is set aside as a youth turkey hunting day on the Refuge. Any licensed junior hunter between the ages of 12 - 17 years may apply.

Wyoming County Democrats have answered the call for a change in leadership in New York's 26th Congressional District. Last night, by an overwhelming majority, the Wyoming Democratic Committee endorsed Jon Powers' campaign for Congress. Powers is running against embattled representative Tom Reynolds.

Impact of Article X siting on NYS Rural Counties

Dear Local Government Official:

As you may know, two bills have been introduced in the state Legislature that would re-authorize Article X of the Public Service Law which is designed to streamline the siting review and approval process for major electric generating facilities. (A brief summary of the proposed provisions is shown on Page 2). Wind farm projects that meet certain thresholds established for power plants are included in these proposals, with the process governed by a statewide siting board.

Town of Warsaw Democratic Committee announces after endorsing Douglas Ingles as their candidate for Warsaw Town Council, November 2007 elections were held and Doug was sucessful in obtaining a seat on the Town Council!

Absent Conesus Board Member Gets Salary

Conesus, NY -- A Conesus Town Board member, whose salary was withheld after he stopped going to meetings, said he has received notice of payment.

Michael Witkousky requested his annual $2,000 salary last month; he had not shown up for board meetings for more than a year.

Drawing Cards Decides Town Council Race

Drawing cards is a game people play when they are kids. But, recently, a Livingston County town had to cut cards to select a new Town Council member.

"On Election Day, we had a tie for the second position for the Town Council position in West Sparta," explained Susan Guenther, Board of Elections commissioner. Democrat Dominic Cosimano and Republican Robert Schramm each received 134 votes.
