A 23-year-old man is dead after a farming accident in western New York. State police say the accident occurred on Wednesday morning on farm in the Livingston County town of York, south of Rochester.

Spitzer Announces $35 Million to Protect Farmland

Governor Eliot Spitzer today announced approximately $35 million in funding through the Agricultural and Farmland Protection Program to protect nearly 13,300 acres of active farmland across New York State. The funding is the largest dollar amount ever dedicated for farmland preservation, and will go to protect the largest single amount of acreage in the programâ€TMs 11-year history. The funding will go 35 farms in 22 counties.

Pepsi buys Batavia bottler

Pepsi-Cola Batavia Bottling Corp. is being bought by the Pepsi Bottling Group, giving the soft-drink maker more territory in six Western New York counties.

Pepsi-Cola Batavia, a family owned and operated business based in Batavia, was founded in 1890 and is currently owned by Thomas and John Houseknecht. The Houseknecht family will continue to own and operate Loose Ends Vending Inc.

Lovett Miller & Co invests in Medina's Sigma

Lovett Miller & Co. and its affiliated investors have completed a $10 million equity investment in Sigma International General Medical Apparatus LLC, a manufacturer of "smart" infusion pumps.

Medina-based Sigma manufactures and distributes the Sigma Spectrum, an FDA approved drug error prevention "smart" infusion pump. The Spectrum helps minimize adverse drug events such as the administration of the wrong dose, wrong concentration, or an incorrect drug to a patient. The proprietary software is designed specifically to prevent ADEs associated with administration of drugs delivered intravenously.

NY Energy Competition vs. Regulation Expected to Spur Controversy

Albany, NY - Influential players in the energy market are preparing for what's likely to be a major fight in the 2008 Legislative session over whether to re-regulate energy costs in New York.

The state's current energy market was intended to drive down prices and give consumers more choices and transparency. But some advocates are pushing the state back toward regulation, which they say saved consumers money in the long run.

Carbon dioxide plant will be built on Shelby site in Orleans County

SHELBY â€" The new ethanol facility in Shelby will soon be getting a neighbor. The Northeast's first carbon dioxide plant will be constructed on Bates Road next spring. Western New York Energy LLC has announced an agreement with EPCO Carbon Dioxide Products, based in Louisiana.

NYS Tractor and Farm Machinery Safety Course

BATAVIA -- Course instruction and intensive training in tractor and farm machinery safety, leading to certification, is being planned for Saturday mornings in Genesee County beginning on February 9, 2008.
