Nursing home to get retroactive Medicaid funds
ALBION -- The Villages of Orleans nursing home will receive $625,000 in retroactive Medicaid funding by next spring as part of the Center for Medicaid Services' new formula for reimbursement. The money will compensate the nursing home for services rendered under the new rate dating back three years, said administrator Jeff Glatz.
GCC Elects New Board Chairman
Genesee Community College's Board of Trustees unanimously elected Laurie J. Miller of Alexander as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the 2008-2009 year at its annual meeting held at the Batavia Campus Monday evening. The Board also elected Charles R. Ruffino of Batavia as Vice Chair and Maureen T. Marshall of Elba as Secretary.

Batavia & Genesee County win state grant
New York State put $13.7 million up for grabs this year for local governments willing to work together and find creative ways to save taxpayers money.
Winning proposals involve two or more units of local government that cook up joint ideas for trimming costs and improving municipal efficiency through shared services, cooperative agreements, mergers, consolidation and even dissolution.
MIPP assists 8 families with disconnect notices
The Red Cross - Rochester Gas and Electric Matching Incentive Payment Program (MIPP) provided utility assistance to eight Livingston County families in the past two weeks, resulting in $2580.83 in direct service. Of the eight families assisted, three were from Geneseo, three from Mount Morris, and one each from Nunda and Livonia.
Countdown to Cruise at the College
The second annual Cruise at the College is just two weeks away and organizers are gearing up for an exciting event. Scheduled for Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Genesee Community College, the cruise night will feature an evening of free family fun including "cruising" cars, motorcycles, and trucks from across the region. The Cruise, which will feature Skull Crusher Trikes this year in addition to food and entertainment, begins at 4:00 pm and runs to 8:00 pm.
Wyoming Animal Shelter Full of Cats
The Wyoming County SPCA in Attica is completely full and isn't accepting cats until they start finding homes for the hundreds of cats currently there. The 'no kill' animal shelter is past its limit for housing cats. "In the last five to six months it's been increasing and we're inundated, we're overwhelmed," Sue Davila from the SPCA said. "A lot of beautiful cats here, a lot of friendly cats, they just need to go to a good home."

Pavilion Teacher Receives Award from Genesee Community College Students
Betsy Collins, a Pre-K teacher at Pavilion Central School, received the first ever Partners in Education Award from students in Genesee Community College's Teacher Education program. Students in the program nominated teachers as a way to recognize not only the important work teachers do in individual classrooms, but also the tremendous mentoring service they provide for future teachers.
Two Geneseo men die in Adirondack car crash
Police in the western Adirondacks are investigating an accident that killed two Livingston County men.
Police say 27-year-old William Cook III and 28-year-old John Curry Jr., both of Geneseo, died as a result of the one-car crash near old Forge in Herkimer County just before 3 a.m. Sunday. A passenger in the car, Thomas Albanese, also of Geneseo, suffered a broken leg but was able to flag down a passing car for help.
