Master Gardener Training Offered

BATAVIA, NY -- Cornell Cooperative Extension of Genesee County will again be offering the popular Master Gardener Training series. The training allows interested community members to learn about a variety of horticulture topics and become a certified Master Gardener.

OASAS Awards Funding to GCASA & Syracuse

ALBANY, NY -- Commissioner Karen M. Carpenter-Palumbo announced that the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) will fund $500,000 for Regional Prevention Resource Centers in New York State.

11 Arrested at Darien Lake Concerts

Darien Center, NY -- Genesee County Sheriff's deputies said 11 people were arrested over the weekend during two separate concerts at the Darien Lake Performing Arts Center. Four people were charged at the 3 Doors Down concert Friday night and another seven were arrested Saturday at the EdgeFest 2008 concert.

Medina Superintendent Arrested

Medina Schools Superintendent Richard Galante now faces jail time for lying on his resume eight years ago when he was hired by the district. State Police say he claimed that he worked as a trooper for 17 years.

Community Arts Grants Available to Livingston County

The Genesee Valley Council on the Arts (GVCA) will be awarding grants of up to $5000 to organizations that are interested in presenting or creating an arts-based project in the year 2009. A community-based panel will allocate the funds, which are granted by the New York State Council on the Arts. Not-for profit-organizations, artists, and art groups based in Livingston County are invited to apply.

Man hospitalized after accidental shooting

ARCADE, NY - A man is in the hospital after an apparent accidental shooting in Wyoming County. Police say 59-year-old James Carley was sitting in a lawn chair in front of his camper in Arcade Monday afternoon, when a bullet struck him in the neck.

Former State Employees Arrested For Fraud

Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the arrests of two former New York State employees who are charged with fraudulently receiving workers' compensation benefits by lying about their employment status.
