An Open Letter to Our Senators
Dear Senators Schumer and Gillibrand:
We, the Democratic Committees of the GLOW region (Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, and Wyoming Counties), are writing to congratulate you on the successful passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. We are grateful that you successfully fought for the funding New York state needs to helps us retain and create jobs, fund education, and meet our Medicaid needs. We note with special satisfaction the White House projections that this new law will create 7,800 jobs in the the 26th Congressional District, which is the district of the vast majority of our residents. However, we would note that our member of the House, Congressman Chris Lee, was opposed to this bill, despite the many benefits it will bring us. Therefore, we would like to point out how important our federal Senators are to our counties: we have no representation at the state or federal level in the majority other than you. We understand that the relief we get from this new law is due to the efforts of you and your fellow Democrats, and we hope your offices will get the credit for the coming aid we most surely need.
GLOW Democrats' Response to Chris Lee's Vote Against Stimulus Bill
Democrats in the GLOW Counties (Genesee, Livingston, Orlean, and Wyoming) reacted this evening to Congressman Chris Lee's (NY 26) vote against the stimulus package that was approved tonight by the House of Representatives.
GLOW Democrats' Statement on Senator Gillibrand
The Democratic Committees of the GLOW region have issued the following statement on the appointment of Kirsten Gillibrand as New York's junior Senator:
"We congratulate Senator Gillibrand on her appointment as our new Senator, and we commend Governor David Paterson on making sure that the unique interests of upstate New York are reflected at the highest levels of government. The position of Senator is of special importance to residents of the GLOW region (Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, and Wyoming Counties). Unfortunately, since almost all of our residents have no representation in the majority of the Assembly, State Senate, or House of Representatives, our federal Senators are our only majority representatives. Therefore, we are especially pleased that Senator Gillibrand comes from an upstate, rural Congressional district that is similar to our own. We are delighted to have a Senator so attuned to our issues.
Team members should be friends?
Team Members should be friends?
Aristotle suggested that friendship, like successful team membership, has three components:
• They must enjoy one another's company.
• They must be useful to one another.
Rural Democrats Respond to Congressman Lee's First Week in Office
The Democrats of the rural counties of New York's 26th Congressional District (Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, and Wyoming Counties, or the GLOW region,) congratulate Chris Lee on being sworn in to represent the district in the 111th Congress. While he is getting established in Washington, the GLOW county Democratic Committees note that Congressman Lee's plans to open offices in just Monroe and Erie Counties suggest there is a good chance that the rural areas of the district, which comprise a great deal of the 26th, may continue to be overlooked despite there being new representation in Congress.
