A Wyoming County school-bus driver has been arrested on charges of sexually abusing a child younger than 11.
Alan Hamann, 64, of Gainesville, was charge with first-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. Hamann was employed at the time of the alleged incident by First Student Bus Co. of Attica as a driver for the Warsaw Central School District.
Hamann was arraigned in Warsaw and sent to the Wyoming County Jail, with bail set at $20,000.
State police said Warsaw school officials called them after a childâ€TMs allegation of being struck on the head by Hamann. While investigating, state police said they learned that Hamann had had inappropriate sexual contact with a child, but did not say whether it was the same child who claimed to have been struck.
Warsaw schools Superintendent Kevin McGowan said district officials are working closely with families, police and the district attorneyâ€TMs office regarding the case.
“As a district, we are taking active steps with First Student to review our contract requirements regarding driversâ€TM safety and student management training and to reaffirm the procedures that should be followed at all times by their personnel,” he said in a statement.
