ORLEANS COUNTY, NY - It's that time of the year when people with motorcycles ride with pride. Making sure the ride is safe is the reason a rally is getting a boost.
Chuck Persons (President, Orleans County American Bikers Aimed Toward Education) said, "We're just here making people aware that we're back out on the roads so they have to look out for us."
It's also a chance for people to reacquaint themselves with their motorcycles. Bikes that have been sitting for several months.
The Orleans County Chapter of American Bikers aimed toward education. A.B.A.T.E., hosted a rally covering 50 miles to spread a safety message. Leaders believe more people may park their cars and SUV's and hop on motorcycles.
Chuck Persons said, "I think there will be with the gas prices the way they are. I think people will be finding some economy."
When it comes to safety, it's a two way street. Experts say while drivers need to watch out for bikers, motorcycle lovers need to be defensive drivers and watch the surroundings as well.
Persons said, "There are safety courses out there they can take to learn how to ride it. It teaches you how to be a little more defensive."
Rebecca Grela (Ride with Pride) said, "Keeping their head and eyes up. Looking for people. It's the beginning of the riding season and a lot of car drivers haven't seen us yet, and so when they seen that single headlight, they're not sure what it is."
