Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge Still Accepting Applications For Youth Turkey Hunt
Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge in Genesee and Orleans Counties is still accepting applications for youth turkey hunt on Sunday, May 4, 2008. To receive a permit, junior hunters must first attend a mandatory orientation on Saturday, May 3, 2 pm â€" 4 pm at the refuge office. Permits will be issued upon completion of the orientation.
The youth turkey hunt is open to junior hunters 12 â€" 17 years of age. Applications are accepted on a first come first served basis. There is no fee to apply but space is limited. To register send a post card or letter to Iroquois NWR, 1101 Casey Road, Basom, NY 14013. Include your name, address and phone number and age. Registration will also be accepted by phone by calling 585-948-5445 Monday â€" Friday 7:30 am â€" 4 pm and weekends 9 am â€" 5 pm. The deadline to register is April 19. Iroquois NWR is located midway between Buffalo and Rochester, NY and is managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
