BATAVIA, NY -- Students who enjoy math and science and may be considering a career in the health care industry are invited to attend a Biotech Camp on August 5 and 6, 2008 at Genesee Community College's Medina campus, 11470 Maple Ridge Road. The camp is directed by the Western New York Rural Area Health Education Center and is sponsored by the Orleans/Niagara Teachers Center and Genesee Community College.

The day camp runs from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Students will participate in many hands-on, fun learning activities and a special DNA-gene activity will be presented by the University of Rochester's Life Science Learning Center.

This educational and fun-packed camp is open to Orleans County students entering seventh or eighth grade this fall and is a great opportunity to learn about health careers from nurses to lab technicians, doctors to dietitians, and physical, respiratory care, or speech therapists.

"We are delighted to host this event," said Jim Simon, Associate Dean of the Medina campus. "This is an enjoyable way to build on science and math skills over the summer and to get our Orleans County youth thinking about a career that may have long-range benefits for both themselves and the community."

A $10 registration fee is due by June 30, 2008, which includes a scrub top for each student, supplies, lunch snacks, and beverages each day. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from the campus center daily. Camp is limited to the first twenty participants.
