About the GLOW Region

Welcome to the Heart of Western New York!

Location, Genesee Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming in New York State
The GLOW Region lies between Western New York and the Finger Lakes

The GLOW Region is comprised of Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming Counties in Western New York State. These four bordering counties share much in common -- beautiful natural resources, idyllic landscapes of rolling hills and farmland, quiet rural lifestyles and abundant recreational opportunities and attractions.

Genesee County

Six Flags Darien Lake, Genesee County
Six Flags Darien Lake -- a wild ride.
Genesee County, named for the Seneca word meaning "beautiful valley," has New York State's highest percentage of designated farmland and ranks first in statewide agriculture.

Genesee's natural resources and easy accessibility make it a prime travel destination for nature-lovers. Must-see attractions include the Genesee County Forest and Park, designated as the first New York State County Forest; the Bergen Swamp, of special interest to students of zoology and botany and bird watchers; and Darien Lake Fun Country, which has grown into New York's largest combination theme park and entertainment resort -- Six Flags Darien Lake.

Livingston County

Conesus Lake, Livingston
Conesus Lake -- "where heaven meets the earth"
Livingston County is a vast, slightly rugged and beautiful landscape. The whole county is upland, with hills that reach an elevation of 2,000 feet; but the slopes are gentle and the terrain rolling rather than steep.

The Genesee River cuts through the bedrock of Livingston, offering ample opportunities for white-water rafting. Conesus and Hemlock Lakes offer swimming, fishing and boating. Conesus, in particular, is a stunningly beautiful lake -- the Indians called it "the place where the heavens meet the earth." Local vendors will be happy to show you the beauty of the County from horseback, a hot air balloon or touring the many hiking and biking trails available.

Orleans County

Erie Canal Cruise, Orleans County
Take a ride on the Erie Canal
Nestled on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, Orleans County enjoys the many benefits of a vast range of waterways -- swimming, boating, snorkeling, diving and sailing.

The Erie Canal runs east-west throughout, gliding by quaint villages and historic museums. For something quieter, try a tranquil paddle down the meandering shale gorge of the Oak Orchard River. If sailing, snorkeling or diving are your passion, the Lake Ontario shoreline and Orleans' sheltered harbor shouldn't be missed for a moonlit cruise. Don't miss the June Strawberry Festival, held in Albion, for tasty desserts, a parade, and more.

Wyoming County

Letchworth State Park, Wyoming / Livingston
Letchworth State Park -- the "Grand Canyon of the East."
Wyoming County is a woodland paradise, boasting mile after mile of breathtaking, secluded countryside that has never forgotten its roots. Quiet country inns, wonderful galleries, and museums with history-come-to-life await our visitors.

The Genesee River cuts a spectacular gorge through southeastern Wyoming County, creating the 'Grand Canyon of the East,' Letchworth State Park, open year round for hiking. Ride into the past on the Arcade & Attica Steam Railroad, launch your boat from a marina or the Silver Lake State Park, wander nature trails at the Beaver Meadow Audubon Center, and shop the old-world historic Gaslight Village.
